Carol Bromel, Owner
Amy Pomp Laurette, Manager + Buyer
Mrs. Cook’s opened in 1976 on Sandpoint Way in Seattle WA. In those days, Sandpoint Way was a great neighborhood with lots of friendly small businesses -- some destined for greatness. Next door to Mrs. Cook’sa little real estate office where the agents hung out and enjoyed wine on Friday afternoons. The "little" real estate company was the original Windemere office. A neighborly acquaintance is what brought Mrs. Cook’s Manger and Buyer, Amy Pomp Laurette into the business. Next door to Windemere was a hardware store and interior design company whose owner was friends with Amy’s father. He’d stop by to swap fishing stories and bring Amy along. When the neighborhood beautification committee decided a block sweeper was needed, and Amy was elected. From there she began working at Mrs. Cook’s as a gift wrapper and later promoted to part-time sales. She held that position through high school and college. When the store relocated to the University Village, Amy was there. As the store moved and expanded and the Village morphed from a sleepy neighborhood to the world class shopping center, Amy was there. It could be said that Amy and Mrs. Cook’s grew up together and remain best friends.
